Coach Nick broke down what new coach Billy Donovan has installed on offense for Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and the rest of the OKC Thunder. While there are some recognizable differences, any of the good stuff in the Thunder Offense is few and far between. While it may be natural to have players revert to what they know, it’s concerning that we’re still seeing some of the same isolation and stagnant offense we were accustomed to from the Scott Brooks offense.

The other worldly talent of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant is not in dispute, and there are plenty of possessions where it’s appropriate to get out of their way and let them weave their magic. But they need to be judged through the prism of the Western Conference playoffs, where isolating for bad shots can get you a seat on your couch watching the conference finals real quick.

  • Love your content! I just hate it how the video player on your site affects the buffering speed of your videos. More power to BballBreakdown.

  • LOVE the content we get from you. It is never a problem to click to the link to go to the website to finish the video.
On OKC thematics – I don’t see them as a viable contender…They certainly have the talent, but I think that Russ still isn’t championship PG. Hopefully the Spurs will take this season for proper goodbye to TimmyD and Manu

  • Love the video. When they run the box set and it stagnates up top with the ball screen and roberson being in the corner, don’t you think that durant should give the ball to Westbrook up top and let him take the screen? That would make sense because you could make roberson do a down screen for Durant and he could be in the corner that roberson was and that would create viable spacing for a Westbrook drive

  • Also, I disagree with you when it comes to them not using Durant some possessions and leaving him in the corner. He’s a threat there as a spot up shooter, Russ and Ibaka can run a good pick and pop, and that gives Durant a rest even while he’s on the court

  • Yeah – that is certainly better than what they run, but that said, Durant can STILL score that way, so what the heck do I know?

  • i feel like the chances are very slim. Reason is because is that the western conference is just so strong. The playoff would be unpredictable how it would go in the western conference in my opinion.. You have the Spurs, Clippers, Warriors, Suns, Mavericks (still can make the playoffs) Pelicans, rockets, grizzlies, and the kings who i think have a great team on paper. That being said, the thunder will be the top tier team but we have seen them not bringing a good run after they traded sixth man James harden.. I personally think it will be hard but possible if they can get more productivity from there bench.

  • Love your videos and I don’t mind coming to your site to watch the videos at all, but could you get a better video player? The video seem to run at ~10fps for me and although it has been buffered sufficiently, it is still choppy when it plays.

    Thanks!
